Upcoming Events
The handy events calendar holds the latest info and of course the mailing list is the place to discuss the details.
You can expect our regular social gatherings and technical talks throughout 2007: -
- Friendly chat, food and drink can be had at our socials. These usually occur every first Wednesday evening of the month and are typically at an inexpensive restaurant or pub in the city centre.
- Our technical talks are usually on every third Thursday evening of the month and are likely to be at our increasingly regular venue, the Navigation Inn. We like to keep the technical talks broad enough to suit the differing abilities of our members, but believe me: you will learn something!
- We like to throw in the odd extra event here and there to suit: e.g. LAN parties and fix-it evenings
We especially welcome new members to the meetings -- you can get help from our regulars (if you need it) or just a friendly group to chat with!
You can get a flavour of the meetings from out the past events pages
About the group
The Nottingham GNU/Linux Users Group ("NLUG") is a focal point for Linux users in and around the Nottingham area providing a forum for exchange of ideas and skills on GNU/Linux-based operating systems.
Membership of the group is free and open: there are no restrictions on who can join. We hold regular informative talks and social meetings - all are welcome! Those who are new to Linux are especially welcome: we hope you will find us to be a friendly and helpful bunch. To join, simply subscribe to the mailing list (we have about 290 subscribers) or just turn up to one of our regular events...
The mailing list can be read using the online archives here. For further details about the mailing list and subscription options go here.
You can also become a registered user of this website by creating an account although this is only necessary if you want to join in with the upkeep of the site.
You can also catch some of us lurking on IRC at #nlug on irc.uk.oftc.net - sometimes quiet, sometimes noisy!

[Social/Tech] Thurs 17/01/08 Open mic and meeting planning
"Group meeting! Group meeting!"
Get down to The Navigation on Thursday night and we'll be having an ad-hoc
social/tech meet where anyone can tell of their GNU/Linux adventures, get
some questions answered, get some problems solved, etc. Bring laptops! We
have free wireless broadband! If I decide not to have a few pints (or get a
lift) I might bring along the projector, Frets-on-fire, and a wireless
keyboard so we can guitar-hero for Free(TM) and make idiots of ourselves. If
that doesn't work out I'm sure we'll have a good time anyhow.
We'll also be discussing what meetings to have in 2008 - all ideas are welcome
(although some may turn out to be more welcome than others!)
19:30 meet (usually in the bar), 20:00 talk (upstairs in the function room).
Ask the friendly staff if you can't locate us!

[Virtual/Social/Tech] Thurs 20/12/2007 Online Xmas meet
We know how hard it is to arrange socials this time of year so our Xmas meet
will be of the non-meatspace variety (bear with me!) : so at 8pm on Thursday,
fire up your favourite IRC client and point it at #nlug on irc.oftc.net
(irc://irc.oftc.net/#nlug for short) where you should find the usual lurkers
and hopefully a few more to chat inanely in the comfort of your own wifi
warmspot or hardwired boudoir.
Anybody needing help with IRC on Linux, Mac, Windows, etc. can ask here, or
read one of the many primers on the intertubes (e.g.
http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/new2irc.html or perhaps the Wikipedia article
